Protass, Jay J. (National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases, Bethesda, Md.), and David Korn. Impairment of temperate bacteriophage adsorption by brief treatment of Escherichia coli with dilute solutions of ethylenediaminetetraacetate. J. Bacteriol. 91:143-147. 1966.-Cells of Escherichia coli K-12 treated for 2 min with 2 x 10(-4)m ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) are unable to adsorb the temperate bacteriophages lambdavir and 434 but show no impairment of their ability to adsorb T-even phages or T5. This finding is consistent with the hypothesis that there are basic structural differences between the cell-wall receptors involved in the adsorption of the temperate and T classes of coliphages.

Isolation of lytic bacteriophages against pathogenic Escherichia coli strains in poultry in the northwest of Iran
In this study, 90 internal organ samples of poultry with symptoms of colibacillosis were obtained from Maragheh poultry farms in East Azerbaijan, Iran. In total, 70 bacterial isolates were confirmed as Escherichia coli (E. coli) strains using standard biochemical tests, and antibiotic sensitivity was determined by the disk diffusion method. Antibiotics used in this study included ampicillin, pe...
متن کاملLytic Activity of Isolated Phage from Milk Against Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Escherichia coli
Background and purpose: Escherichia coli (E.coli) is the most common cause of urinary tract infection. The treatment strategy has been hampered by the emergence of broad-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing E.coli and its resistance to most antibiotics. Bacteriophages are suggested as an alternative treatment option. This study aimed at evaluating the lytic activity of isolated phage from unpaste...
متن کاملSynergistic bactericidal activity of a naturally isolated phage and ampicillin against urinary tract infecting Escherichia coli O157
Objective(s): Bacteriophages are infectious replicating entities that are under consideration as antimicrobial bioagents to control bacterial infections. As an alternative or supplement to antibiotics, bacteriophages can be used to circumvent the resistance to existing antibiotics. The aim of this study was to assess the synergistic effect of a naturally isolated phage...
متن کاملEvaluation of adsorption efficiency of activated carbon/chitosan composite for removal of Cr (VI) and Cd (II) from single and bi-solute dilute solution
The aim of this study was to evaluate the adsorption capacity of the novel coated activated carbon by chitosan for removal of Cr (VI) and Cd (II) ions from single and bi-solute dilute aqueous solutions. In addition, the adsorption abilities of activated carbon (AC), chitosan (CH) and chitosan / activated carbon composite (CHAC) have been compared. Adsorption studies were performed in a batch sy...
متن کاملRemoval of nickel and total chromium using Escherichia coli biofilm supported on clinoptilolite
-Biofilm is communities of microorganisms attached to the surface and is able to concentrate metal species within their cell structure. Therefore, the aim of this study was to produce Escherichia coli biofilm on zeolite (clinoptilolite) and evaluate its ability for nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr) adsorption from aqueous solutions. A laboratory-scale batch model was used for biodsorption assay. Th...
